Dr. Bryan B Voelzke

Dr. Voelzke is a fellowship trained urologic reconstructive surgeon who is excited to be providing surgical/medical care for men and women in the Inland Northwest. He strives to do the best that he can for each patient by treating him/her as he would want to be treated and is mindful to recall words of wisdom from one of his mentors – “the patient will live with the outcome of a surgical procedure for the rest of his/her life”.

Dr. Voelzke has lived in the Pacific Northwest since 2008. His prior academic practice was solely devoted to reconstructive urology at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. While there, he cultivated a broad network of physician referrals across the Pacific Northwest to provide surgical and medical care for patients with complex urologic reconstructive issues. Such reconstructive issues included surgical management of:

  • Male and female urethral stricture disease
  • Male stress urinary incontinence (male urethral sling and artificial urinary sphincter)
  • Rectourethral fistula
  • Male genital skin deficiency (i.e., buried penis)
  • Adult hypospadias (virgin and compilations following previous surgical repair)
  • Genital reconstruction following necrotizing skin infections or skin malignancies
  • Peyronie’s disease
  • Impotence via penile prosthesis insertion

Dr. Voelzke also has an interest in reconstruction of the bladder/ureter following radiation for pelvic malignancy or other methods of injury. At the time of departure from his prior job, he was performing over 110 reconstructive cases/year and was the only reconstructive urologist in the Seattle area performing some of the above surgical procedures.

Providing patient-centered care is important to Dr. Voelzke. He has received a number of awards from patients in recognition of his attention to patient care. One such award he received on separate occasions was the Patient Reported Assessment in Satisfaction and Excellence (PRAISE) award that is solely based upon patient feedback and recognizes physicians who provide excellent communication. Prior to departing Seattle in 2018, Seattle area colleagues recognized Dr. Voelzke as a Top Doctor in Urology (Seattle Met Magazine). In 2018, he was awarded the Colonel John N. Wettlaufer Resident Educator of the year award by the Madigan Army Medical Center urology residents and was one of sixteen health providers in the University of Washington School of Medicine to be nominated for the UW Distinguished Teaching Award.

Dr. Voelzke is a founding member of the Trauma and Urologic Reconstructive Network of Surgeons (TURNS, TURNS is composed of reconstructive urologists across multiple academic centers that collaborate in the study urologic reconstruction and is the first and only clinical research network of its kind in the field of reconstructive and genitourinary trauma. This collaborative research effort has been essential to further advancing the field of male urologic reconstruction.

Dr. Voelzke earned his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio. He completed his urology residency at Loyola University Medical Center followed by a one-year advanced clinical urology fellowship in Melbourne, Australia. He then completed a fellowship in genitourinary reconstruction and trauma at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center with Dr. Jack McAninch. Dr. Voelzke then joined the Department of Urology at the University of Washington in 2008, where he was employed until his departure in 2018. In addition to his clinical practice, he completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology in 2013 to augment his clinical research abilities.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified in urology.

In his free time Dr. Voelzke enjoys spending time with wife, whom he met in Seattle, and their wonderful kids. They are very excited to explore Spokane and the Inland Northwest.
